We
attracted our target audience by looking at other action/thriller films and
seeing how they used music and lighting, how the films started and any similarities
between them. This would help us to see common characteristics in films of the
same genre as ours and use these in our film to attract the right audience.
For example, ‘James Bond: Quantum of Solace’ starts off in a very mysterious way with views of a hill side tunnel and flashes of an extreme close up of a car. It also has low, quiet music layered on top giving off a mysterious atmosphere, making the audience feel as though something big is about to happen. It makes the audience nervous and excited at the same time and keeps them watching to see what’s about to happen next.
In our film we’ve taken the idea of having a strange atmosphere by using red lighting and having an extreme close up of the villain’s face, surrounding him in darkness and mystery because the audience never gets a good look at him. We couldn’t use music right away because we have dialogue so we decided we would start our music as the action begins. This is a common feature in most action/thriller films. The music will either build up or hit its peak when the action really gets going or it will just start as soon as the action does. A film where this is done would be ‘Mission Impossible 2’.
The kinds of actors we would have in our film would be ones who are well known to the genre of our film. We would have people like Angelina Jolie who has been in films like ‘Lara Croft’ and ‘Wanted’. Milla Jovoich who has been in the ‘Resident Evil’ films and Christopher Eccleston who was the villain in ‘Gone in 60 Seconds’. All of these actors have had experience making action/thriller films and also come with their own fan base which would attract other people to our film because they are in it.
Steven Spielberg would be our ideal director for our film because he has produced lots of very successful action/thriller films such as ‘Jurassic Park’ and ‘Indiana Jones’. His great success in the film industry has meant that he is known for creating brilliant films and has accumulated fans of his own that could be relied on to see the film. However it would also be great if we could get Len Wiseman, who directed ‘Die Hard 4.0’, Mark Forster, who directed ‘James Bond: Quantum of Solace’, or Zack Snyder, who directed ‘Sucker Punch’.

We also attracted our target audience by using the thirteen tasks that the main character has to complete as a way to keep the audience engaged and absorbed in the film because they'll want to know what is going to happen next, what the main character will need to do next. It will also keep the audience mentally engaged in the film because they will be coming up with ideas and try and guess what she'll have to do next before it actually happens.

Below
are some annotated screen grabs of our main task showing how we’ve tried to
attract the target audience for our film and the link to our video.
The villain is in a
badly lit area making it hard to see him clearly to create a creepy, mysterious
atmosphere.
We’ve added in fast paced, loud music to
create an exciting, adrenaline fuelled atmosphere.
