A distribution company is used in media to get the media product known and viewed by the public with the intention to make a profit. In this case the product would be a film. They would deal with marketing the film and getting it screened in cinemas and making sure the target audience for the film knows that it is being released.
For our film the distribution company we’ve chosen is ‘Synergy Distribution LTD’. This is because they have set up their distribution company in a number of different countries, such as the UK, USA, Germany, Portugal and Australia. This would mean that they could get our film shown in a number of different countries reaching our target audience on a global scale.
‘Sony Pictures’ has distributed a number of films such as ‘James Bond: Casino Royal’, ‘Men In Black 3’ and ‘Resident Evil’. These are all film in the same genre of ours and so this means that ‘Sony Pictures’ will have had a lot of experience marketing thriller/action films and will be able to apply their knowledge to the marketing of our film and will know the best ways to do this.
A production company is used in media to get backing, funding and distribution for a film. This means they come up with the budget, where and when the film will be shown, the marketing of the film, scheduling and organization of staff.
For our film we’ve chosen ‘Fusion Production’ as our production company because they handled films such as ‘Mission Impossible 2’, ‘Lara Croft: Tomb Raider’, ‘Paranormal Activity’ and ‘Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull’. These are all action/thriller based films like ours. The money for our film would come from film conventions, where we can find contacts who would be interested in producing our film or helping to find a production and distribution company for our film, a contest such as the one the film ‘Shifty’ was produced from or individual shareholders who put money into the film and will then get a cut of the profit.
Our film is similar to the ‘Mission Impossible’ films, the ‘James Bond’ films and other films such as ‘Wanted’ and ‘Mr & Mrs Smith’.
Other possible production and distribution companies we would use if not ‘Paramount Pictures’ would be ‘Columbia Pictures’ and ‘Summit’ and ‘Warna Brothers Pictures’.
